An official investigation insight into the tragedy has initially acknowledged that the panic set off when a crowded bridge started swaying. The disaster may have turned into the saddest corner of Cambodia. The prime minister of Cambodia has announced a day of mourning on Thursday for the victims. Unlike the 7.1 magnitude quake which caused no deaths in September last year, the earthquake on Tuesday, January 22 has made a lot of buildings collapsed and taken away the life of many people. There are also many fatalities and people trapped beneath rubble and sparking fires in the destroyed city. Measuring 6.3 in magnitude, the deadly earthquake occurred during lunch hour in local time when streets and shops and offices were full of people. According to officials, the worst-hit state is Alabama with the death toll up to 204 people, including 15 killed by a tornado that destroyed the city of Tuscaloosa. Other states including Tennessee, Mississippi, Georgia and Virginia are also announced the emergency situation. At least 32 people have been killed in Mississippi, 11 in Georgia, 14 in Tennessee and eight in Virginia on Tuesday and Wednesday. The US National Weather Service said that the current storm will hit North and South Carolina before making its way further north-east. Storms have stroke US for weeks and another major storm system will bring heavy rain in the forthcoming days. read more
