By: Jared Mcginty | 2011-01-07 | Home improvement Power is applied to the Tesla coil system by the primary transformer. This voltage, although high, is not nearly enough to jump the spark gap so that it can get to the primary coil. Instead, the only place that it can go is to the capacitors, where it builds up until it is able to jump the gap and run through the primary coil. When the power runs through the primary coil, it sets up a magnetic field inside the coil. read more
By: Jared Mcginty | 2011-01-19 | Home improvement I want to build a Tesla coil, would it be possible to do so with just coiled wire? do i really need capacitors and other things like this? I understand that two grades of wiring is required for the primary and secondary coils, but i was just wondering if that all I need along with a power supply? read more
By: Jared Mcginty | 2011-01-19 | Home improvement How do I make a battery powered Tesla coil(obviously quite small)? I've seen those mini ones as well, some smaller than a 9 volt battery. But I want to make it as large as possible while using batteries only. I built a battery powered Tesla coil myself. read more
By: Jared Mcginty | 2011-01-14 | Home improvement The one thing I don't get is do Tesla Coils Actually Make Music. The other question is how? When they make a spark, the heat expands the air, suddenly, producing sound waves. If the drive voltage is switched into bursts of pulses so that the bursts are spaced in time, one burst per cycle of the desired sound frequency, sound can be produced at any desired frequency. read more
By: Sarin Carlson F | 2011-01-07 | Diy I've seen them. I've seen them produce lightning's. But what is it good for? It's called a "generator" ... does it mean it can be used as an electricity generator? A power source? Is it fuelless? If it is, where does it get power? read more
By: James Blatt | 2011-09-26 | Computer The basic use of the ferrite coils is evidently seen in a lot of things which surround us for e.g. radio in which it is used to tune inductors etc. These coils are becoming a major part of almost all appliances recently ensuring the growth of companies which produce these coils. read more
By: Jared Mcginty | 2011-01-17 | Home improvement The Tesla coils placed remotely on mountain tops could produce manmade lightning, of which ozone is the byproduct, Even on a small scale careful planning could place the produced ozone in its proper locale assuming solar drifting is a real concept! read more
By: Sarin Carlson F | 2011-01-06 | Diy Nicola Tesla is my favorite dude ever. The Tesla coil is essential designed to send unsafe voltages into people resulting in mortification boojau. People say it's not possible to get "overunity", but obviously energy can be made free because Tesla did it over a hundred years ago. So how did he make his generator generate 60 cycles, or 55.5, or 50, or whatever it was. I'm assuming he built his first generator with magnets, not electromagnets. read more

By: Sarin Carlson F | 2011-01-05 | Diy Generating free electricity has always been the talk of the day. Many people want to power their house for free and safe the environment. If you just want a big spark, get an ignition coil at an auto parts store. Every time a current goes through it and then stops, it will make several thousand volts (a big shock if you touch it) spark between the center and one of the anodes. read more
By: Jared Mcginty | 2011-01-19 | Home improvement I am interested in Tesla coils but do not know what damage they can do to people. I want to know can I come in contact with one of the arcs they generate without getting hurt or feeling pain. But I will appreciate any advice you have. read more
By: Sarin Carlson F | 2011-01-06 | Diy I've played around with a Van de Graaff generator before in the special projects program at my school and I've seen a Tesla Coil in action at the McWane Center in Birmingham, AL. I know about the inner working of the Van de Graaff gen. Rubber belt, copper wire, steel ball, motor. Easy enough. But what about a Tesla Coil? read more
By: Jared Mcginty | 2011-01-17 | Home improvement I've seen some schematics of Tesla coils, and I noticed that they had capacitors and a spark gap at the primary coil of the last transformer, are these absolutely needed and why? In order to understand why Tesla Coils use spark gaps and capacitors, you need to understand more about resonance. So you might want to do some research into that when you have a chance. (Although not all Tesla Coils use spark gaps). read more
