By: Prasoon Kumar | Writing Jonathan Franzen baffles the fans, simply because (despite being a celebrated author) he is not used to handling attention, and he doesn't care much about it anyway. He has just delivered another bestseller in the form of Freedom, and he makes it clear he never expected such adulation from his audience. When he is in the midst of a crowd of raving fans, he is excited but would like to feel as if it is happening to someone else. He understands the modern men and women much better. read more

By: Prasoon Kumar | Book Reviews Jonathan Franzen is especially scathing about women, through the eyes of Richard Katz (most probably, an alter ego of the author himself). When a woman looks at his (Richard Katz) reaction after a kiss (he doesn't use the word), Richard cannot fake attraction with her, since he has experienced the same feeling about a hundred times before. It's not new to him anymore. The insecurity of being an ageing female is also captured extremely well, especially when Richard can't even pity her. read more
By: Prasoon Kumar | Book Reviews Even if you continue reading the book just because you expected it to be a great read depending solely on the reputation of Jonathan Franzen, just plod on a little longer, since you'll begin to enjoy the book after around 160 odd pages. Don't expect it to be like The Corrections, because it's not. It just closely tracks one particular marriage, and also analyzes the way the leading couple of the title ‘Freedom' approach their middle age and reconcile with it. read more
By: Prasoon Kumar | Book Reviews Although Jonathan Franzen doesn't know how the cruise chapters work, he is aware how the first two chapters and then fifth and sixth work. He just takes a single situation and then tightens the screws for all the characters (just like short novels). He is slightly apologetic about it, but Jonathan Franzen does create situations somewhat mechanically (for you it means there is a method behind the madness). He wants to figure out a powerful dramatic situation beforehand when he starts writing. read more

By: David Wood | Home Business The illustrious story of Jonathan Budd does not center on the fact that he is a multi-millionaire at the age of 25. Or that he is one of the most successful multi-level marketers on the planet. Indeed, these are remarkable accomplishments for anyone at any age, much less a young punk as he refers to himself.
