According to Buckingham Palace, it is the first time the Queen’s birthday has fallen on Maundy Thursday. Accompanied by her husband, the Duke of Edinburgh, the Queen attends the traditional Royal Maundy Service at Westminster Abbey and hands out Maundy money to 85 women and 85 men, each receives two purses, one red and one white. On her birthday, Union flags were flown above Government buildings from 8 am until sunset, the King’s Troop Royal Horse Artillery provided a 41-gun salute at noon in Hyde Park and the Honourable Artillery Company fired a 62-gun tribute from Gun Wharf at the Tower of London at 1 pm. The rare photostream from the image of Queen Victoria and Prince Albert adoring each other in the past to recent images of Prince Harry running the charity activities in Lesotho are shown off. Most of the photos show the royal family in public from the Queen's recent trip to Canada and New York to her summer garden party last week. Through the recently-announced photo gallery, fans and admirers can see photos of Queen Elizabeth as a young princess or a girl child.
