There are many types of kites; whether its a heavier-than-air kite (the usual type youll see decorating the Son Bou skyline), or even a rarer lighter-than-air kite, also known as a kytoon, which may be filled with hot air, helium, or hydrogen in order to stay aloft... read more
By: Patrick Treacy | 2010-04-02 | Medicine Robert Graves, the son of an episcopal clergyman was born in Dublin in 1797, the same year that Napoleon was leading his armies over the Alps to threaten the citizens of Vienna. He was a brilliant student and graduated with a first class medical degree in the fall of 1818 as Abraham Lincoln's mother Nancy, lay dying of 'milk fever' in a small wooden hut in the untamed forestlands of Indiana. It appears that as well as being an excellent scholar, Graves was also a passionate adventurer and often told his medical friends that 'there was always something waiting to ... read more
By: Simon M Cook | 2010-04-03 | Book Reviews The Hobbit is a fantasy novel by J R R Tolkien. It is a classic children's book, and while it hints at the darkness to come in Lord of the Rings, it is fun and exciting. For me it is a nice easy introduction to the world of Middle Earth and introduces some of the races that exist there. Tolkien is the ultimate storyteller, and he doesn't fail with The Hobbit - with his superlative writing style he manages to bring the characters and world alive, somehow making it inhabit an almost real world, with real people. It's this ability to place you in the thick of the story that makes The Hobbit stand out - if you aren't into the darkness, and the involved plot of Lord of the Rings, then try The Hobbit. read more

By: Marisa O'Neill | 2010-04-02 | Book Reviews A few years back, when I read Dark Lover (the first book in the Black Dagger Brotherhood series), I thought, "this is a great book, I hope there will be more books about these characters". I couldn't begin to imagine or even hope that this series would be as epic in its scope as it has become. With Lover Avenged, J.R. Ward continues to prove why she has legions of fans that not only spend a great deal of time debating the fate and fortune of each of her characters, but clamor and wait with bated breath for each new installment in the Black Dagger Brotherhood series. read more
