The Rangers are an elite infantry unit who are trained in special warfare tactics. They are not used the same way as traditional infantry troops in that their training is more specialized and intense. They are light infantry and will never be used in the same role as mechanized infantry. They are not used to conduct defensive operations unless it is a small part of an offensive mission.
