Instagram app is one of the biggest social media platforms today with more than 1 billion users leading the way in contemporary communication and connection. Instagram stories are one of the relatively new features along with others like reels.

In this article, we’ll show you Instagram story dimensions: what the supported sizes and aspect ratio are. And also, some tips on creating Instagram stories and using them for social media marketing.

What’s an Instagram Story

Stories are a common feature that we now see on many social media platforms. Instagram stories were one of the first of their kind, influenced by a similar feature from Snapchat.

Although Snapchat has lost much of its popularity, IG stories are still pretty much in vogue with about 500 million daily users.

Instagram stories not only provide a handy tool for keeping in touch with close friends and sharing the news of your life, but it also drives great marketing traffic across many users and products.

Brands make sure they have a decent Instagram story strategy when they are building their campaigns for their products. A study found that 58 percent of people said that they become more interested in a brand or product after they see them on Instagram posts and stories.

Instagram Story Dimensions

f you’re looking to get the most out of your Instagram Stories, it’s important to understand the dimensions and how they work. The first thing to know is that there are two types of Stories, photos, and videos. One way to make sure your Stories are being seen by as many people as possible is to use Genuine Instagram Likes from 1394ta.

Instagram story’s dimensions are made of two important elements: aspect ratio and size of stories.

What is the Size and Aspect Ratio?

The aspect ratio is the length and width of an Instagram story. Other devices and mediums can have different aspect ratios. For example, while Instagram stories support vertical photos and videos, on PC your screen aspects are horizontal.

Size, on the other hand, refers to the resolution of images and videos which is how many pixels there are in a given image or video.

All Screens Have Dimensions

All platforms have a certain size they support just as Instagram story dimensions have a size that shows the maximum pixels it supports.

A 4K TV for example supports a huge size of pixels and video sizes but you can’t play the same video files on your phone or post-Instagram stories of them.

Instagram Story Size and Dimensions

Instagram story dimensions are 1080px by 1920px.

This means that an IG story has to have 1080 pixels in width and 1920 pixels in height.

This is the maximum for Instagram story sizes. Your images and videos may have lower resolution; however, you can’t exceed the maximum supported size.

This is the Maximum, not a Necessity

Instagram simply doesn’t support resolutions higher than 1080px by 1920px and you won’t be able to post them if you try.

These resolution sizes are the best Instagram story size you can create content with, so it is advised to use the best Instagram story dimensions and the best quality content so your 1394ta’s original Instagram followers are happy with what you offer and bring more followers and traffic.

The Aspect Ratio of an Instagram Story

Instagram story dimensions in terms of aspect ratio are aspect ratios of 9 and 16.

This means it’s shorter in width and longer in length as it’s usually the case with smartphones where most people post their Instagram story from. In PC screens or TVs, this is usually 16 and 9, where it is wider and shorter in height for a horizontal view.

What’s the Meaning of the Aspect Ratio?

An Instagram story with these aspects means that the media covers the entire screen. You don’t have to abide by the exact ratios but they are the limit.

You can post smaller stories that don’t cover the edges of the screen but you can’t exceed the aspect ratio limit.

A 16 to 9 scene from a movie you post on your story will play in the middle of the screen. You can also rotate this video horizontally but that will require the viewer to turn their screen.

Create your Instagram story according to Instagram Story dimensions

When you’re working on your Instagram strategy for reaching a higher audience and creating much better content, you should keep in mind what you can do at most in an Instagram story.

Great Instagram stories for marketing and personal use are usually in higher resolution and they are vertical photos or vertical videos in line with the supported 9 16 aspect ratio.

High-quality videos are always more watched on the explore page.

You can post Instagram stories where you share photos that are taken horizontally of course. But it requires your viewer’s device to be turned horizontally or maybe their heads. This is not something most Instagram users do.

People usually skip stories right away they expect too much effort or time from them. So, you will easily loos your likes and views, which means in that case 1394ta can be helpful for you.

Use a portrait photo and vertical Instagram videos.

Just like any other medium, people are used to what the medium offers and look for it in new posts. When you make a blog post, for instance, you use more text and this is like that.

It is always smart to use Instagram stories according to them what they support: aspect ratio of 9 16 and 1080px by 1920px.

What file formats you can post on an Instagram Story

Instagram story dimensions also include the type of file you post on your story. If you simply use the app’s camera, this won’t be a concern since it takes photos or videos that are already fit for the app by Instagram itself.

If you’re going to use a camera roll or other files from your storage, however, you should keep in mind what file formats are supported.

Instagram story dimensions for file formats are JPG, PNG, MP4, MOV, and GIF.

If you use photoshop or other editing programs for creating images or videos, you should keep the supported file formats in mind so you can post your user-generated content on your IG story.

The format is crucial to consider as well as Instagram story size.

Maximum Photo size for An Instagram Story

Instagram story dimensions for images you post on your stories are 30 MB maximum.

You can’t post photos that are bigger than 30 MBs even if they are supported file formats.

Not a Problem

There are rare photos larger than 30 MBs if they are not ultra-quality taken by very professional cameras so this shouldn’t be much of an issue.

You should still keep this in mind however if you’re using Photoshop or similar programs for creating Instagram stories for your business profile as they can affect file sizes.

Maximum Video Size

Instagram story dimensions for video size are 4 GB maximum.

This again is quite large and shouldn’t be an issue. If you’re thinking of posting longer or larger videos you can try your Instagram feed or reels.

Maximum video length for Instagram stories

Instagram videos can be 15 seconds maximum for an individual story.

Longer videos than that are divided into bits and pieces. Most people don’t watch a video that keeps on going and going on an Instagram story.

So, it’s a good idea that you give sneak peeks of what you’re promoting in stories and leave the actual content on Instagram posts or other social media.

What’s a safe zone?

When you’re creating an Instagram story, Instagram recommends leaving 250 pixels from the top and the sides to not include logos, polls, texts, links, tags, or other elements.

Instagram story dimensions of what is called a “safe zone” are 1080 to 1420 pixels.

Stay in the safe zone

It is advised you don’t add links or tags outside the safe zone because important details may be left out from your viewer’s perspective.

Add texts fully in the safe zone because when they are out they may be missing or unreadable.

Some tips for a better social media marketing strategy

In this article, we’ve been talking about Instagram story size, dimensions, and other necessary information.

This information is useful if you’re going to use them for best practices for your content.

Let’s move on to some tips about some best practices as final thoughts.

Use Story Highlights

Instagram stories can stay and be viewable on your Instagram account as long as you want.

When you post an IG story, simply choose to highlight it and you’ll see it on the section you put it in when you tap on your profile icon.

Highlights can serve as a behind-the-scenes for your regular Instagram feed where you post more serious posts occasionally.

Use Highlights for Marketing

You can highlight certain Instagram stories on your business account.

Make sure your latest posts constitute a relevant page for your current campaigns or products. What you’re promoting should be on top of posts.

What to Highlight

On highlighted IG stories, put a great example of your company culture.

Make it concise and effective because most people won’t spend much time on commercial profiles unless you catch their interest.

Make sure you call to action regarding your products or campaigns in your photos or stories. Add the relevant links. Create polls to see what the customer wants.

Schedule Instagram Posts

You can schedule IG stories or posts for a business account.

Make sure you don’t get caught up behind in your campaign with this feature and provide regular content.

Don’t use custom dimensions that are not perfectly fit. Use ideal Instagram story dimensions for your stories as well as your posts.

Medium is the message claims a popular thinker. Just as content writing is about the text, Instagram stories are about the visual and what the medium offers. Use them smartly if you want to succeed when you create Instagram stories.
