Concrete vs Stone Fence?

There’s an array of fencing materials to choose from. You can opt for a picket, brick, concrete, or stone fence. However, of all these options, concrete and stone fences stand out for several reasons. They also provide similar services, and choosing between them may put you in a dilemma.

As such, we have dedicated this article to differentiate between a concrete and stone fence by providing their strong and weak points.

Concrete Fence

When you build your fence with concrete materials, here are some of the benefits you’ll enjoy:

Noise Reduction:

Concrete fences are built with cement and sand and produce a thick wall that reduces external noises. The thickness of a concrete fence serves as a noise buffer, making it an excellent choice if your property is located near traffic.

Easy to Maintain:

Beyond the occasional hosing down or rare repainting, which is optional, concrete fences require almost no maintenance.

Durable:

One of the significant benefits of building a concrete fence is that it’s durable. Concrete constructions tend to last a long time, sometimes between eight decades to a century and a half. As such, you’ll use your concrete fence for as long as you want.

Aesthetics:

Concrete constructions are now so versatile that you can make them be anything you want. There are stained, stamped, decorative, and plain concrete constructions, and you can choose any of these options for your concrete fence.

It would help if you also considered the downsides to choosing a concrete fence, as that way, you’ll be able to weigh your options adequately.

The major one is its durability. While this can be a significant advantage, once you construct a concrete fence, it’ll be nearly impossible for you to change it on a whim. It’ll remain in place until you employ extreme measures to bring it down.

Stone Fence

On the other hand, you may be on the cusp of choosing a stone fence for your property. We’ll briefly discuss the upsides and downsides of a stone fence.

Easy to Maintain:

Stone fences are straightforward to maintain. You do not require heavy machinery or a service fee to maintain a stone fence. Choosing a stone fence also means you don’t have to worry about spraying it with chemicals to prevent rot, moss, algae growth, or even insect infestations.

Durable:

A stone fence is very durable. Rocks can be around for thousands of years without giving in to weather conditions. Your stone fence can also resist extreme weather conditions and serve you well for decades.

Aesthetic Appeal:

Stone fences have a way of making a statement. They’re classy yet straightforward building materials. In addition, there are stones of different colors, shapes, and sizes, and you can utilize these various features to your benefit.

One major downside to installing a stone fence is that you cannot modify its appearance. You cannot paint it a new color or even replace a part of your fence without having an odd result. For example, one part of the fence will look weather-beaten while the other part looks freshly installed.

In Conclusion

If you’re still largely undecided about the type of fence to opt for because of the extreme similarities between a stone and concrete fence, you can prioritize your taste and finances instead. Concrete Contractors Honolulu provides stone and concrete services. If you have any more questions they would be a great place to start.
