Spending lots of time staring at your screen often means less time for social interactions. Too much screen time can lead to problems such as stress, restlessness, anger, and trouble focusing. A digital diet, or unplugging, involves taking a break from screens connected to the internet. Here are some tips for taking a break from electronic screens in your Bloomsbury Residences condo.

Easy Tips to Unplug

Heavy users will need a lot of time to get used to cutting back on devices, but it can be done with these three tips.

Create a Schedule

If you want to limit your screen time for a healthier lifestyle, you have to create a schedule. Come up with reasons why you need a digital diet and what you hope to improve and achieve by unplugging. It helps to put down your goals on paper. For instance, a digital diet will give your eyes a rest from technology. It can heal the symptoms of digital eye strain, such as eye fatigue, dry eyes, headaches, blurred vision, and increased sensitivity to light.

Start Slowly

If you’re having trouble getting away from your device, you can start by reducing the amount of hours spent on your phone. If you’re on your screen 7 hours a day, begin by cutting back to about 4 hours, and then gradually reduce the number to 3 or 2 hours daily. Always remember to stick to your rules and regulations at all times.

Get Rid of Distractions

The features of your devices can help limit your use of technology. You can mute notifications for certain apps and also enable “Do Not Disturb” to greatly reduce interruptions. By disconnecting from your devices, you can easily avoid the urge to check your device every minute or so. Less distractions mean less use of your devices, allowing you to improve your physical and mental health!
