Huawei’s revenue dropped by almost 30% in the first half of 2021. Huawei makes money from selling phones, and people are not buying as many phones now.
The company sold its phone business following US sanctions. These made it hard for Huawei to buy components and software using US technology. Huawei’s revenue from consumer electronics, which includes phones, dropped by 47%. The company also said that the chip shortage also affected their business.
In the beginning of this year, the company’s head of consumer devices acknowledged difficulties with US sanctions. The new phone was launched to show how hard it is for the company to work with these sanctions.
The sanctions have prevented Huawei devices from working with Google’s Android Operating system. That is why the company has started to use its own operating system called Harmony OS.
