If you are about to get dental implants or have already got them, one of the questions you might have is how to take care of your implants. Getting implants will allow you to have a brighter smile, but the brightness of your smile will only last as long as you take care of your investment. Implant care begins the minute you walk out of the dentist’s office.

Even though dental implants are not real teeth, they need to be taken care of. Your implants allow you to chew and smile confidently. The last thing you want is for your lack of care to ruin that. You must brush and floss your artificial teeth like your real ones. To get dental implants in las vegas, speak to a dentist today.

Best practices to care for your dental implants

1. Use a soft nylon toothbrush.

After getting dental implants, your teeth will be vulnerable and sensitive. Therefore, you might need to change your current toothbrush and switch to a softer one made of nylon. Nylon toothbrushes are much softer and gentler over your teeth and gums.

You must avoid hard-bristled toothbrushes as they can scratch the surface of your new teeth and sensitive gums. Moreover, you should also avoid using metal instruments around the surgical area.

2. Avoid abrasive toothpaste.

Any form of abrasion after the surgery can be harmful to your oral health and can damage your dental implants. Along with avoiding hard-bristled toothbrushes, you should avoid abrasive toothpaste as well. Most toothpaste you find commonly at the grocery store is made with abrasive chemicals to remove plaque and tartar from the surface of your teeth. However, too much roughness can wear down your teeth.

3. Take painkillers.

Your dentist will give you post-surgery instructions and tell you that you will be experiencing pain after the procedure. They will prescribe you medications for pain relief. Once the sedative wears off, you will likely start experiencing pain within a few hours of the treatment. Make sure you follow your dentist’s treatment plan. The swelling and pain should start subsiding after some time.

4. Floss daily.

Just because you have new, artificial teeth now does not mean you do not need to care for them like your real teeth. Your artificial implants need equal care. Make sure to floss every night before you go to sleep after you brush your teeth. This is because plaque can easily accumulate around your implants, leading to infections.

If you need a consultation regarding implants, speak to a dentist today.
